POP THE FLAGS: More Than a Tournament — A Stage for the Future of Girls Flag Football

There are tournaments where teams come to play.

Then there are events where athletes, coaches, families and programs become part of something bigger.

POP THE FLAGS was built to be the latter.

The UNLEASHED Flag Foundation created POP THE FLAGS as a girls flag football showcase centered on competition, opportunity, visibility and community. From the opening snap to the final medals being placed around athletes' necks, the field represented exactly what UNLEASHED was created to champion:

Girls competing. Girls developing. Girls being celebrated. Girls being seen.

And while champions were crowned, some of the biggest stories of the event went far beyond the final scores.

They Played Up. Then They Won It.

One of the defining performances of POP THE FLAGS came from Prove It.

Prove It is an 8–9U team, but instead of remaining within its own age division, the team stepped up to compete against older athletes in the 10–11U Girls Division.

They weren't there just to gain experience.

They won the division.

Prove It battled through older competition and finished the event as the 10–11U Girls Champions, demonstrating the confidence, competitiveness and willingness to challenge themselves that UNLEASHED wants to cultivate throughout girls flag football.

They played up.

They competed.

They PROVED IT.

They Arrived as Individuals. They Left as Teammates.

Another remarkable story unfolded with the UNLEASHED Free Agents.

Unlike established teams entering the showcase together, the Free Agents were made up of athletes who registered individually.

They came from different teams, different backgrounds and different experiences. Some arrived without knowing the girls who would soon line up beside them.

UNLEASHED gave them a team.

They took it from there.

The Free Agents didn't simply fill roster spots or participate. Across three divisions, individually registered athletes came together and produced an incredible showing:

14–15U Girls Champions.

Girls High School Champions.

12–13U Girls Runner-Up.

Their success represents something important about the vision behind UNLEASHED.

We believe an athlete shouldn't have to arrive with an entire team behind her to receive an opportunity.

If a girl wants to compete, develop, challenge herself and experience the game, there should be a pathway for her onto the field.

POP THE FLAGS showed exactly what can happen when that door is opened.

They arrived as individual registrations.

They became teammates.

They left as champions.

Celebrating Our POP THE FLAGS Finalists

Every division brought its own competition, personalities and memorable moments.

10–11U Girls

1st Place — Prove It
8–9U team competing up a division

2nd Place — Team GrabDat

12–13U Girls

1st Place — Team GrabDat

2nd Place — UNLEASHED Free Agents

GrabDat captured the division championship while the individually assembled Free Agents battled their way into the championship game and earned silver.

14–15U Girls

1st Place — UNLEASHED Free Agents

2nd Place — Team GrabDat

The Free Agents found chemistry quickly enough to climb all the way to the top of the division, while GrabDat added another championship-game appearance to an impressive overall showcase.

Girls High School

1st Place — UNLEASHED Free Agents

2nd Place — Lexington East

At the high school level, another individually assembled Free Agents roster completed its run by capturing the championship, while Lexington East earned its place on the podium with a second-place finish.

The Bigger Win

The medals matter.

The championships matter.

The scoreboard matters.

But the opportunity matters more.

Look at the images from POP THE FLAGS and you'll see far more than first- and second-place finishes.

You'll see young athletes proudly holding medals around their necks. You'll see new teammates celebrating together. You'll see coaches standing beside the girls they've poured into. You'll see an 8–9U team refusing to be intimidated by older competition.

You'll see girls experiencing what it feels like to have an event built to celebrate them.

That's the future UNLEASHED believes in.

Girls flag football continues to grow, and with that growth comes a responsibility to create meaningful opportunities around the game—not simply more games.

Athletes deserve development.

They deserve competition.

They deserve exposure.

They deserve recognition.

They deserve pathways to the next level.

And they deserve platforms that recognize their accomplishments with the same energy, presentation and celebration they have earned on the field.

This Was Only the Beginning

POP THE FLAGS represents one chapter in a much larger vision for the UNLEASHED Flag Foundation.

We're building an ecosystem around girls flag football that connects competition with athlete development, recruiting exposure, showcases, community partnerships and opportunities that extend far beyond a single weekend.

POP THE FLAGS showed us what that future can look like.

An 8–9U team can step onto the field against 10–11U competition and walk away champions.

A girl can register without a team, meet her teammates at the event and find herself competing for—or winning—a championship.

An athlete can walk onto the field looking for an opportunity and leave with a memory, a medal, new relationships and greater belief in what's possible.

That's bigger than a tournament.

That's what UNLEASHED is being built to do.

To every athlete who competed, every coach who invested in these young women, every parent and family member who supported them, and every program that stepped onto the field:
